that picture of trude is shocking once you get beyond the shock of it; shocking in that if you look at it long enough and see her in her wholeness, you realize how deeply marginalized women are.
to the first glimpse, she looks like she needs grooming. we're used to frida kahlo; she's become an icon, a thing, but this woman, an unknown (to me) is new, thus merely ungroomed.
in a thousand years past liberation, she might look like a whole, timeless human being in a weird peter pan collar outfit in juxtaposition to other women whose grooming and expressions might look molded and trapped into their time.
